| Utility industry professionals
around the world are making QUALCOMM and Globalstar their new communications
partners. Whether you’re prospecting, operating, or maintaining gas,
oil or power sources, our satellite phones can keep you in voice and
data communication in remote areas where there may be no telecommunications
infrastructure, no reliable sources of power and no protection to
terrestrial phone lines from harsh weather. Anywhere within the range
of a Globalstar Gateway, you’ll have access to communications, because
QUALCOMM Globalstar portable satellite phones work as cellular phones
where cellular coverage is available and as satellite phones where
it isn’t, so your communications aren’t affected by unreliable or
unavailable ground communications. |

Who can use QUALCOMM Globalstar Satellite Products?
- Exploration teams, such as geologists
and geophysicists searching for new energy sources
- Engineers and construction teams who
need more data, decisions from the home office, or additional equipment
and supplies to complete projects
- Inspection teams checking remote oil
and gas pipelines and power lines
- Maintenance and repair crews who need
supplies quickly to restore function to distant lines and other facilities
- Executives seeking current information
on the status and capabilities of facilities
- Personnel on offshore rigs, remote oil
platforms and other remote sites who can conduct their business efficiently
and boost morale through personal contact with loved ones
The GSP-1600 Portable Tri-Mode Satellite Phone
and the GSP-2900 Fixed Satellite Phones can turn remote
locations into centers of business operations for these and many other
specialists. Think of the times your field teams found themselves without
any means of communicating critical data to headquarters. Then think of
the possibilities with a cost-effective QUALCOMM Globalstar satellite
communication solution.
- Keep in touch with company headquarters or communicate
with suppliers about logistics. Plan ahead intelligently instead of
being forced to react with undue haste at added cost because of late
or inadequate information.
- Redirect maintenance crews and speed up response to
outages and equipment breakdowns. Dispatch personnel for repairs and
have them call back with status or request needed parts. Arrange for
more resources when you need them.
- Conference call with the crew to decide whether to
continue drilling in one spot or to stop and look elsewhere.
- Access corporate e-mail, intranets, databases and
all the other benefits of your company network when you’re at a remote
site. From a ship, rig or the office onshore, communicate via voice
and data services†, such as digital fax, e-mail, data transmission or
file transfer.
- Stay informed about valuable data during every phase
of exploration and construction. Receive vital information such as drilling,
directional and seismic data; production analyses and forecasts; or
samples presented in high-resolution images. QUALCOMM provides a range
of cost-effective data solutions for a remote station: the GSP-1600
Tri-Mode Satellite Phone for portable voice and data transmission, and
the GSP-1620 Satellite Data Modem for integrated data transmission applications.
- Set up GSP-2900 Fixed Satellite Phones at multiple
locations at a remote site or at multiple sites to create a communications
network. The fixed phones can be connected to any standard cordless
or corded telephone set via a standard twisted pair connection. Because
telephone sets may be distant from their serving Radio Antenna Units
(RAU), one fixed satellite phone, with the proper choice of telephone
sets, can serve multiple sites or several offices at a single site,
such as an offshore oil rig. Cordless telephone sets add another level
of convenience when a standard two-wire telephone set is desired along
with an untethered connection. Certain cordless telephone sets may offer
walkie-talkie like features for your added convenience when on the same
site. A small office can also be supported due to the Fixed Phone’s
compatibility with PBX systems.
- Utilize the portable satellite phone’s position location*
information to aid in site layout in positioning structures and locating
facilities.
- Provide your crew peace of mind knowing they can instantly
summon help or medical supplies if they need it with dependable communications
available. Plus, QUALCOMM satellite phones are real morale boosters:
engineers, geologists and maintenance personnel can all keep in touch
with their families and friends.
Globalstar phones have been used by the service staff
Electricité de France (EDF), a major French utility, in remote mountainous
areas where cellular service was unavailable.
