Traveling in an RV often means that you’re out of cellular
coverage, but the GSP-1600 Portable Tri-Mode phone keeps you connected because
it works as a cellular phone when cellular coverage is available and as
a satellite phone anywhere within range of a Globalstar Gateway. The satellite
phone works in three modes to ensure maximum economy, reliability and safety
while traveling:
- digital cellular,
- analog cellular, or
- Globalstar satellite
A satellite phone helps you stay in touch when traveling
in remote areas, where normally there is no cellular coverage. Think of
the times you could have used a dependable phone when traveling in the
middle of nowhere and had no way to make a phone call. Now you can use
a QUALCOMM Globalstar satellite phone to:
- Contact a towing company or a garage if you have a
roadside emergency.
- Call a physician or pharmacy or find the nearest hospital
if you encounter health problems on the road.
- Connect to a computer so that you can access the Internet†
and send and receive e-mail†. Everyone on the trip will be happy to
know that they can:
- stay in touch with family and friends,
- manage personal finances,
- check stock quotes, or
- browse the Internet†.
QUALCOMM offers two options for installing a Globalstar
satellite phone in your RV: the GSP-1600
Portable Tri-Mode Satellite Phone or the QUALCOMM Globalstar GSP-2800/GSP-2900
Fixed Satellite Phones.
Portable Satellite Phone Usage
The portable phone is ideal for travelers who want the
convenience of a phone in their RV and the complete portability of a cellular
phone. The portable satellite phone provides remote e-mail† and Internet
access† from inside the RV when used in conjunction with the car kit,
and offers the portability of a traditional cell phone so you can take
the satellite phone with you when you leave the RV to go hiking.
Fixed Satellite Phone Usage
The fixed satellite phone, which has a Radio Antenna
Unit (RAU) externally mounted on the vehicle’s roof with a clear view
of the sky, can be connected inside to any standard cordless or corded
telephone set via standard twisted pair connections. You won’t know you’ve
left home thanks to the high quality voice communications throughout the
coach. A separate data† port is also an option with the fixed unit, so
that you can also send and receive e-mail† and access the Internet†.
Data Capabilities
Data capabilities include QUALCOMM Globalstar satellite
data† services that let you to access the Internet or any TCP/IP packet-switched
data network when connected to a computer or PDA, and send and receive
e-mail, access corporate data networks and intranets, web browsing, etc.
