Portable Satellite Phone Usage
The GSP-1600 Portable Tri-Mode Satellite phone is ideal
for boat operators who want the convenience of complete portability in
addition to a cabin phone. Although it is designed to operate only on-deck
with a full-sky-view rather than from an enclosed cabin, the GSP-1600
requires no installation, and also can be conveniently taken ashore or
to another vessel. Some Globalstar distributors also sell a portable maritime
kit which will allows the portable phone to be installed on a bulkhead
or panel that is connected to an RAU. This way, the satellite phone can
be used in the cabin or cockpit without sacrificing clarity or portability.
Data Capabilities
Data capabilities include QUALCOMM Globalstar satellite
data† services that let you to access the Internet or any TCP/IP packet-switched
data network when connected to a computer or PDA, and send and receive
e-mail, access corporate data networks and intranets, web browsing, etc.
Additional data capabilities include position location*, short messaging
service (SMS)*, digital facsimile† and Caller ID*. Data transmission over-the-air
is provided at full-duplex rates of up to 9600 bits per second, with no
